thirst

i’ve walked three thousand miles to get here
in this land where the sun doesn’t leave the sky
barefoot and void of shade

i’ve collected each drop of sweat and tears
step by step, filling up bottles
more weight on my shoulders, more bottle refil

a deep breath by your doorstep, a knock
your silence and breaking glass
every drop of me floods the floor
below your feet, soaking my toes
you stood there silent on the puddle of me
and then you closed the door.
